F.D.High School, Ahmedabad participates in Malaria/Dengue Prevention Public Health Initiative

The initiative by the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) and the state health department was piloted in F D School which is an active school associated with the Paryavaran Mitra Programme. Nearly 400 students of class 9 have been asked to check their homes and fill a Dengue Homework Report. “Normally, we look for mosquito larvae and kill them. But what is needed is that we prevent the breeding. The best way to spread awareness is to include students who can be act as ‘soldiers’ to rid their homes of mosquitoes. The handbook is available for download on the Resources Tab of the Paryavaran Mitra Website. In order to provide a resource for large number of schools, the Teacher’s Handbook is now available in Hindi for free download. Addressing travel woes in front of the school

Soumik Karmakar, a student of Bharat Mata E/M School, Chattisgarh is working to achieve the Paryavaran Mitra Young Leader for Change-Best student award. His action project addresses the traffic situation in front of his school. The initial traffic survey has thrown up some interesting findings and challenges which Soumik plans to address with the help of his school management and a concerted awareness campaign with his colleagues at school.
