Hand Print for Change

Hand Print for Change is a program being offered for this year 2016-2017, in selected schools in the 5 southern states of India. Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Kerela. The program will focus on project based learning to enhance the understanding of sustainable development in students by blending the science and the social science concepts. The programme will help to prepare students to face the challenges of environmental sustainability in their own spheres of influence.

The five thematic areas are
1. Biodiversity
2. Energy
3. Food
4. Waste
5. Water and sanitation

Participating schools will form a “Hand Print Club” comprising of 60 / 60+ interested students from standard 7, 8 and 9th. The School would develop an Action Project Plan for their School.  Action Project would be based on the problem solving approach based on the topic of concern within the themes selected by the school.

Program Details

  1. Schools would nominate an interested teacher for implementing this program.
  2. Teacher-in-charge will receive an Orientation about the program.
  3. Each School would form a “Hand Print Club” comprising of 60 / 60+ interested students from standard 7, 8 and 9th.
  4. Teacher-in-charge would work along with the members of the Hand Print Club on any one or two of the themes in the school campus.
  5. The Hand Print Club and teacher-in-charge would be required to meet at least once a week/fortnightly to review the plans of the club/ and work on club activities.
  6. The School would develop a Action Project Plan for their School to be implemented by the school
  7. Action Project would be based on the problem solving approach based on the topic of concern selected by the club/ school
  8. Implementation of the Action Project along with the members of Hand Print Club, School Teachers and School Management. (depending upon the nature of the project)
  9. Documentation of the Action Project
  10. Evaluation
     

School will receive Educational Materials on Education for Sustainable Development

  1. Teachers will receive an orientation about the program.
  2. Teachers will gain exposure to various concepts in Education for Sustainable Development, teaching learning techniques, etc
  3. Teacher will also receive a Certificate of Participation in the Program.
  4. Hand Print Clubs in Schools
  5. Implemented Action Project by the students

Hand Print is the symbol of positive actions of individuals or groups towards sustainability in a rapidly changing world. It represents awareness, knowledge, values, skills, participation - the five important components of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).
