The Science Express: Biodiversity Special (SEBS) train has passed through the stations in Andhra Pradesh and is currently stationed in Kudal Nagar station, Tamil Nadu. NGO partners from GROW organization, Vijayawada, Jana Vignana Vedika (JVV) Nellore and volunteers from GITAM University, Vishakapatnam organized the PCRA painting competition in these stations. 480 students took part in the competition in Andhra Pradesh stations.

Next stations of the train are – Kanyakumari, TN ( 20-23 Aug), Ernakulam, Kerala ( 24 Aug), Kozhikode (25-28 Aug)

 

Science Express - Biodiversity Special Schedule

 

 Paryavaran Mitra activities - painting competition, teachers training and environmental activities conducted at different stations

Science Express is a unique exhibition train, travelling across India. After four successful tours, its next phase proposed as Biodiversity Special will travel to around 55 locations across India from June to December 2012, with the objective to develop awareness about biodiversity, climate change and similar issues among students and general public.

It is a collaborative initiative of Ministry of Environment & Forests and Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Vikram A. Sarabhai Community Science Centre (VASCSC), Ahmedabad has been entrusted by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India to manage the project. The first 8 coaches hold information about the rich biodiversity zones of our country while the other four coaches are devoted to knowledge of science and technology.

Schools will be able to enroll online for the programme on the train with help from the CEE person present at the station.

Paryavaran Mitra is associated with the Science Express with the following three activities:

Water Testing - Bacteriological water testing kits are handed over to 5-6 schools at every station to test the drinking water quality in their schools. Procedure of the test is explained by the team handing over the kits and schools are supposed to report back within a week with the results. To see test results of a few schools, read here....

Teacher’s Training - A state of the art classroom has been designed to be used as a teacher’s training facility on the train. A 3 hour long teacher training programme in the classroom followed by viewing the exhibition on the train will take place at respective halts of the Science Express – Biodiversity Special (wherever feasible). The resource persons fo the training will the CEE team from the concerned State/Regional office.

Platform Activities – A painting competition is being held as part of the platform activities organized by Petroleum Conservation Research Association in association with Paryavaran Mitra network .read more...
